Single Mother’s Club

In Uganda, there is a need for survival especially the female youth of secondary age drop outs and single mothers. FIDA (Uganda Association for Women Lawyers) says that 1000 single mothers every year report child neglect by their fathers. There are those that do not report at all to the law because of ignorance and fear to cause war between the children’s fathers and relatives hence the struggle continues. Most of these women have a low level of education which doesn’t qualify them to get better paying jobs making it difficult for their children to go to school and get better quality education

Nearly 30% of female youth of secondary age are out of school in Uganda. This is due to lack of enough money to support their education, pregnancies and early marriages making it difficult to survive. However, with the craft and crotchet making, the ministry helps to minimise on the need through employment. Training the women on how to do the products and building on creativity. The products that would come out of this would be shoes, African jewellery, aprons, bags, hats among others for both men and women, here, the youth and mothers would be trained in what they can do best in order to produce things that can impress the customers.

According to the number products produced by each lady, that is the amount that they would earn and 10% would be deducted from their income in order to sustain the project.

These products help the ministry in fulfilling the desire to help others. We are hoping to get connected to other business people and those that can support the project to become big since it is still a small one and needs a lot of financial input. The project would also benefit the youth girls and single mothers through employment regardless of their level of education. This would help them in sustainability.

Again, some need financial empowerment do start up a business or even add on what they have to be able to sustain themselves and their families as well.
